Slow Food USA
The earliest success of the RAFT project is the RAFT List of America's Endangered Foods. This list includes over 700 endangered plant and animal foods, from apples to shellfish, and identifies the status, location, as well as the historical and cultural links of these foods. The list is a result of research and recommendations from the expertise of dozens of food historians, chefs, conservation biologists, farmers, plant and animal explorers, genetic conservationists, and agricultural activists. The list is the spine of RAFT's program initiatives.
We Are What We Eat We Are What We Eat is a participatory performance about what we eat and why. An innovative collaboration between NEW ARTiculations and the Community Food Bank, the project uses modern dance and community stories to reveal how food connects us to each other, our environment, and our everyday lives.
Gary Nabhan is supporting a project that the dance company is working on.
Orion Society
A CHUNK OF PALE , limey dolomite sits on my desk, a fragment of my ancestors' homeland. Sometimes I fit it inside my fist, as a way to remind me of the very ground from which my grandmother was torn around the time of World War I. Once a chink between larger cobbles in the dry masonry walls of the hut where she resided during her girlhood, this rock speaks to me like no other.
